Summerside's First Mayor, Ronald Campbell

In 1877 Summerside's first Council of seven members was elected under the Act of Incorporation, the chairman being also appointed by the people. This tradition of chairman continued for a decade and in 1898, the term "Mayor", has been applied to the chief official of the town. The first elected official to be called, "Mayor" was Mr. Ronald Campbell.
