These items could be "out there" somewhere. Please contact us if you are aware of the existence of any of the publications described below. Summerside Journal, 16 June 1909, page 5. col.1 "The Journal has just printed for the Board of Trade a neat folder for enclosure in letters abroad. The folder will fit the regulation business envelope and will not add anything to the cost of a letter. It is attractively printed in two colors, and there is just enough reading matter to interest the recipient. Every business man and everyone corresponding with friends abroad should enclose a folder in their letter. They cost nothing, and may be of value to the town." Summerside Journal, 26 April 1916, page 5, col.1 ‘Picturesque Loveliness of the Lawn’ is the title of an attractive publication by Mr. Wm Chas Archibald. As the title of this attractive booklet implies, it is devoted to the beautifying of lawns, and contains many valuable suggestions and some very interesting reading matter regarding lawns and landscape scenery in Summerside and elsewhere on the Island. Mr. Archibald has spent considerable time in town, and his good work here in the way of improving our lawns and giving valuable suggestions, will be a great benefit." Summerside Journal, 20 December 1916, page 5, col.1 "Miss Carrie E. Holman has our thanks for a complimentary copy of a book of war poems she has published at her own expense, entitled "In the Day of Battle". This is a clearly printed and well-bound book of 166 pages, fitted with gems of poetry on the great war. The book was published for purely patriotic purposes, the proceeds of which will go entirely to the late King George and Queen Mary Maple Leaf Club in London, which organization receives and makes comfortable all Canadian soldiers in England and on furlough from the front…" Pioneer, 9 December 1922, page 5, col.1 "A new periodical, to be published monthly, called the ‘Summerside Steeple’ has made its appearance, edited and published by Rev. A.K. Herman, who in the initial number solicits subscriptions, Xmas custom for his advertising patrons, and suggestions…" |
