Title
Diaries

Dates
1907, 1912-1920, 1926-1994

Physical desc.
1.32 m of textual records

Scope/Content
This series consists of diaries that recount the personal activities of Miss Wanda Wyatt whose life spanned the 20th century. Miss Wyatt wrote primarily about family, friends, and events in her hometown of Summerside. She also made entries about her academic life at the Edgehill School and later at McGill University. Although the diaries cover a span of 87 years, gaps appear from March 1907-February 1912, May 1912-December 1917, February 1920-August 1926, and March 1927-September 1927. There is some overlap of dates in the form of notes made on plain paper and in a daily reminder booklet in 1968, on a calendar in 1969-70, and on cardstock from 1975 to 1979. The majority of diaries are school-grade scribblers, stapled together in later years. Her handwriting remained consistently tidy and legible over the years, but became shaky in 1991. At that time, caregivers made some of the entries on her behalf. Almost all of the diaries contain newspaper clippings and memorabilia relating to the time they were written. Some items have been neatly pasted onto the front or back pages while others are loose within the notebooks.
