March Break Heritage Camp 06/03/2003 - 17/03/2003 "Sails of Summerside" The staff of Wyatt Heritage Properties are busy planning a "first ever" week long March Break Heritage Camp. Based on the theme "Sails of Summerside", the camp will focus on the Golden Age of Sail during the 1800's - a time when Summerside Harbour was an International super-highway. Participants will enjoy a fun, entertaining and educational program that will offer a glimpse into the lives of Nineteenth Century shipbuilders and their families. Children will discover what it was like to set out to sea in a wooden sailing ship from the shores of Summerside, destined for ports around the world. They will participate in a creative writing class with well known author Deirdre Kessler, learn to draw and paint seafaring pictures with local artist Maurice Bernard, build a wooden model ship, learn heritage crafting skills such as tin punching, tour the Wyatt Heritage Properties, and engage in research at the MacNaught History Centre and Archives. Our Heritage Camp will offer five great days of fun and learning for children aged 9-12, from Monday, March 17th to Friday, March 21st (9 to 3:30 daily). The fee for this program is $80.00 per child (includes a Sails of Summerside tee shirt, a nutritional snack each day and all crafting supplies). Students are required to bring a brown bag lunch. Join us for a nautical March Break, Heritage style. Pre-registration is required by March 13, 2003, with space limited to the first twenty students registered.
