17/01/2012 | Replay: Commentary on Home Ice Exhibit

The story of hockey is woven throughout the threads of Island history. Everyone has a memory or a story of the game that throughout time has brought Islanders together for sport, entertainment, rivalry, and moments of glory.

Wyatt Heritage Properties is at work to bring our Island hockey story alive through the exhibit “Replay, A Commentary on Home Ice” which will be featured as part of activities for Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada.

The Veterans Convention Centre of Credit Union Place in Summerside will become the massive exhibit space that will give viewers a replay of the importance hockey has played in Island communities and in the lives of individual Islanders. Museums and archives from across the Island are contributing artifacts of various natures to the exhibit. Wyatt Heritage Properties is now putting out a call to anyone across the province that may have interesting, rare or unusual hockey memorabilia that they may wish to loan for the exhibit to help round out the commentary of the provincial home ice. Lori Ellis, and Sabrina Webster, who are overseeing the exhibit, are intrigued by the stories of what is out in the community, and strongly believe they can help round out the history. They invite anyone who is interested in sharing their collection to please contact them at Wyatt Heritage Properties (432-1296 or 432-1297.) Webster is asking people not to hesitate in calling herself or Ellis, out of the belief that what they have may not be important or interesting enough. She says the objective of the exhibit is to tell the story of hockey on the Island whether it be the after school game on the pond, the community hockey leagues, or those who made it to the NHL. Webster is asking people to contact Wyatt Heritage Properties as soon as possible as the exhibit material will be finalized in the next several weeks.

The public will have the opportunity to view the exhibit at Credit Union Place throughout the week leading up to Hockey Day in Canada, February 11th.
