Arts in Motion Celebration in Summerside
The City of Summerside is celebrating the arts. Arts in Motion, is back from July 16 to August 12. Arts in Motion is presented by Wyatt Heritage Properties, the arts, heritage and cultural complex for the city, with funding coming from Heritage Canada’s program Building Communities through Arts and Heritage. The goal behind Arts in Motion is to increase community awareness and celebration of the role the arts play in a healthy, vibrant community, while offering up some wonderful entertainment. Over seventy-five Summerside and surrounding area visual artists, artisans, designers and musicians will present demonstrations of their art and give performances of numerous genres of music, as well as dance, and street performances.
The demonstrations and performances will happen week-days in downtown locations. Watch for special performances from 11 am to 1 pm in front of the Armoury Building, 33 Summer Street, Kelly’s Flower Shop, Scotia Bank Square, and the MacNeil Mall on Water Street, and The Water Street Bakery and Deli (Tuesdays). The lunch time venues will be an opportunity for office workers, shoppers, and visitors to the city to take in the demonstrations and performances during lunch breaks, and speak with the artists and performers about their passion.
A new dimension for this year’s Arts in Motion is an art exhibit presented through the Journal-Pioneer newspaper. Fifteen artists will highlight their work in the area of design, and creative problem solving. Keep an eye on this fifteen day long exhibit.

A FORK IN THE ROAD - Wayne Wright
...the work of a storyteller, not a professional historian. History, my learned friend Dr. Edward MacDonald assures us, concerns itself
with the story, not just the facts. All of us live by our myths and illusions: our story is the way we get by. “It’s my story,”
the accused man said, “and I’m sticking to it.” And, being a project linked to the new millennium, this book would be near-sighted if
I didn’t tell the story of Wilmot from the very beginning -- not just the last few centuries since the coming of the white man.
